I have a question about reccing vids
What are people's opinions on embedding vids in a post when making a rec-list?

Technically, you are not reposting the vid since all the views still go to the original video in the way that reposting a piece of fanart does not. But if I was reccing a piece of fanart, I wouldn't embed the image in my post so is it the same for fanvids or is it different because there is actual embed functionality.

I ask because I feel that embedding the videos makes the post more interesting (instead of just being a wall of text) and people are therefore more likely to watch the vids.

I've never seen a discussion about this so I don't know if I'm just worrying about something that no one cares about. But I also live under a rock in fandom and miss many a conversion.

I know I could also individually check with all the vidders first but I'm going to be honest, that just isn't something I have the time for or even want to spend the time doing.

I usually embed vids, I think someone is more likely to click them and give them a look then just including links, especially since some vids have nice title cards that were designed to catch a person's attention. I think the whole point is trying to get as many people as possible to see this amazing vid you love, and I know as a sometime vidder I always want more views.

I think I only time I wouldn't embed is if you are making a really long rec list, like a post with 2-5 embedded vids is fine, a post with thirty would be a little too much. In the case of really long rec lists maybe embed a few key vids and add links for the rest.

Yeah, showing off the title cards is also something I wanted to do as well!

And yeah, the whole point of rec lists is to increase the views on the particular fanworks so I feel we should make it as easy as possible to view it.

You're also right about not embedding every vid on a long reclist but I think for vids its probably better to keep the number of vids low anyway, and split the reclist up into multiple parts (at least I think that is what I am planning to do in the future). It's not like you are going to be watching all the vids at once anyway.
