HELP PEOPLE!
You know I have no idea about the ages of people on my flist and well I don't really care... until now. But it's not what you think.

A couple of posts ago you may have read that I might have got a job with a card design company. Not so much a job really, but a chance to experience a facet of the design industry, etc, etc.

Now, I am going in this tuesday and the lady in charge wants to me to bring in a couple of sketches for design ideas. What she wants me to do is to create some designs for birthday cards for people in the middle aged bracket.

Great. Excellent. I can do that. I have ideas already.

But what I want to know, what I want to ask is about the type of subject matter included. I don't want to offend anyone by calling them middle aged but for anyone older than a young adult what yould be the type of things you would like to see on a card? And for those who are younger could you do me a favour and ask someone who's older, what they would like to see on a card?

It would really help me out to just to get a couple of more ideas. Thanks :)

I think it depends really on preferences and gender. For males who knows. Since I'm only 19 I don't fall under the middle aged people and my parents are in their 50's and what not. So I can't really help. Sorry.

For some reason though Floral comes to mind. *shuddars*

I know that's the thing. Floral came to my mind as well but apart from that it's just everyine's individual preference and that's where I get stuck. Grr.

Will probably end up doing party related designs instead.

I'm 31. (God, does that make me middle aged? Gah!!!!)

I personally like funny cards. I have a twisted sense of humour and rarely will I settle for sappy when cards like...

Happy Birthday to my Intelligent Older Sister...

From her cuter younger more hip sister...

...are out there to annoy the masses. (Birthday two years ago from 23 year old sibling) My generation, on the whole, are quite screwed in the head (we are Generation X all growed up...)So, I'm not sure if that helped, (it is also early in the morning for me and I'm not yet thinking clearly being as there is too much blood in my caffiene system and apparently I love parenthesis which I am incapable of spelling.)

Ooh, interestingly I ended up having a worryingly protracted discussion with someone (who is 26) about cards (because it was my boyfriend's birthday and don't ask, we were in the pub and she just kept banging on) but she says she has to buy a lot of cards for people at work and that there should be more general-type cards, ones that aren't too crude, just mildly amusing. I know this probably isn't specific enough for you, but still. No flowers or dated-looking landscapes either.

24.....but I will say that I agree with humor b/c alot of my middle aged friends and family are stressed and humor is their number one outlet. That isn't a stereotype just my experience. My husband isn't a very stressful person but he still loves humor here are the two cards he just got for his upcoming birthday.....he is turning 32

"worried about being 40? millions of people turn 40 everyday, but do they pout and complain and snap at everyone? sure they do! old people are like that!" the card illustrations were small pics of babys pouting and crying

lol, I thought that one was funny, his sister wrote I know your not 40 but i'm just preparing you for the inevitable.

the other card was made for people with crazy families like my husbands it said.....

"there's only one way to survive a family like ours...have an extremely good sense of humor.....happy birthday!"

not as funny but simple and cute.

When I'm needing to be creative I go look at similair material to get my mind going. I suggest going to read e-cards online to get your thoughts running....good luck! I wanna see what you come up with please! When hubby gets home which will be late I'll ask him for some ideas, I don't know if 32 is considered middle-aged but he is pretty creative.....I'll be back.

I'm in my 30s, does that qualify me? I like humorous cards, or on occasion something with sentiment but not sappy. Personally I loathe drippy verses, too, whatever the subject matter.

Ooh, I loathe drippy verses as well but it's okay now, the lady in charge at the card place when I went there practically told me exactly what she wanted.
