So there was this huge frelling storm that woke me up this morning. Lightning was pretty much flashing constantly and I couldn't hear the thunder above the sound of the pounding rain. It was also dark, being six thirty and all which is a really lousy way to wake up. It gets even worse when you realise you will soon have to abandon your toasty warm bed because you have to go to TAFE.
Brr.
So I went and saw Kingdom of Heaven last night which I enjoyed but now I am having these thoughts about a story that's kinda but not really based on the basic plot of the movie. It involves religion and faith and war and someone thought to be divinely possessed and it sounds really good in my head but alas, workload does not permit me to even think about it. Of oucrse, that never stopped me before. But that always seems to happen to me. I will go see a movie (most of the time a scifi or fantasy one) and when I get home I get all these ideas that I never end up writing down. So eventually I will have enough ideas that I can comile into one story that would be a rip off of every other story in existence. I think that would be a true and noble accomplishment.
Kingdom of Heaven
First off, I did enjoy it. The plot was a little hard to follow at times but I did still enjoy it. The story was a little weird in places, like how Balian (Orlando Bloom) suddenly goes from a blacksmith to a kick arse knight. But it was Bloom, so I'll forgive him. Actually, aside from that I did kinda like Bloom in the movie. He was good.
So wasQui-Gon Jinn Liam Neeson as Godfrey (I always do that, refer to chracters or actors by the characters they've played in other movies). I liked that little speech or speeches that he did. I need to get a copy of those.
Arrow through the neck. Ouch.
But what the hell was up with the slapping thing when someone got knighted. I mean, that had to have hurt and it was really unexpected. I think both me and my friend snorted at the same time when it first happened and made fun of the second time it happened.
I also liked the clothes that Sybilla was wearing. I want some.
And the King! I so felt for the King. How he said he was Jerusalum and then hit the guy and then collapsed. That was heart wrenching. But watching him speak out of the mask was a bit weird. But the mask looked good. It was shiny and impressive.
Gee was a git. That's all I have to say.
And don't worry, I haven't forgotten teh Thewlis. David Thewlis starred as the Hospitaller and thank god for HP fandom because otherwise I would never have seen how gorgeous the guy is. Of course, the little flip down nose guard on his helmet kinda distracts from him. But I liked Thewlis's character as well. He was kinda like Lupin as well, all quiet and wise and slightly sarcastic. And he also rode his horse on the side to fool the bowman which was rather clever. Of course, that was just before he clonged Balian on the head with his sword which came across rather comical.
And alas, poor Thewlis head for he indeed does die at the end because he followed the King's orders and his blond scruffy head ended up in a pile of other heads. Tis sad. I did not want poor Thewlis to die.
But yeah, fangirling aside I enjoyed the movie. Some parts were a little hmm but overall it was good. Impressive.
ETA: First official picture of Katie Leung as Cho Chang... and to all those idiots you hated her before you even saw her picture and said she didn't look right well, she looks pretty fine to me.
