Evolution on trial as Kansas debates Adam vs Darwin

Why don't they teach both viewpoints and tell the kids to believe what they want. Until you prove one side or the side you can't say the other is totally wrong (just for the record, I believe in the evolution train of thought).

Alabama Bill Targets Gay Authors

Republican Alabama lawmaker Gerald Allen says homosexuality is an unacceptable lifestyle.

"I don't look at it as censorship," says State Representative Gerald Allen. "I look at it as protecting the hearts and souls and minds of our children."

Thankfully the bill didn't go through but does anyone else see how unreasonable this sounds. Unacceptable lifestyle? Who is he to say what is acceptable or unacceptable. Personally, I couldn't care whether you're gay, straight or both. Do whatever the hell you want with whoever the hell you want. It just seems so intolerant when surely there are worse things to be worrying about.

That's the insidious thing about the Tyranny of the Majority. They appoint themselves as the ones to decide what is or is not "acceptable" or "deviant" or "harmful" or whatever words they choose to couch their prejudice in. And since they're the majority, they often get away with it.

And Kansas is my home state! To paraphrase Steve Martin, "I believe that Kansas lawmakers can make that state what it once was: an arctic region covered in ice."
