Jesus loves you... not!
I was walking through the city between classes to get something to eat and I get accosted by this woman who literally shoves this phamplet into my hand and tells me 'Jesus loves you'.

What the hell? (pun intentional)

Now firstly, I have nothing against religion. If you want to believe in something then it's fine by me and I think it's great that you have your faith. Personally I believe that most religions are full of fanatics and their holy texts are full of lies. Too much stuff just simply doesn't make sense for me to believe in God. But if you want to believe in him or some higher power then that is your right and I am certainly not going to take it away from you, just like I have the right to not believe in God.

Now back to the phamplet. This is what it said:

Jesus loves you.

The most important decision that you will ever make in your entire life is to ask Jesus into your heart. No matter where you are at the moment, He is waiting for YOU!! Turn to him now, He promises abundant life here on earth and eternal Life. Only Jesus can give you a peace that passes all understanding. All you have to do is talk to HIM...

So okay, fair enough, standard sales pitch right?

Except the 'He is waiting for YOU!!' part sounds a little like a sex ad and aren't people who talk to God or Jesus considered insane? Take Joan of Arc. She said she heard the voice of God and they burned her at the stake. Great, I'll be sure to take that advice and speak up to Jesus and get thrown into a mental asylum.

But I'm being petty here and am making fun when I really shouldn't be but the main point I had to make is that I don't appreciate having this phamplet thrust into my hand and get told to basically readjust my spiritual beliefs. First of all, if Jesus really is the answer then he shouldn't need people handing out propaganda in the streets and secondly I wouldn't want to belong to a religion that resorted to doing that.

Besides I think it's pretty safe to say that according to their religion I already have a one-way ticket to Hell and I so refuse to be redeemed.

No, no... if you talk to God, it's prayer. If God talks to you, it's schizophrenia. :)

Ahh, yes, of course. Should have written that better.

So every time you pray, you also gotta pray that God won't answer you :S

Pretty much, yeah...

I was in Calgary last week, and some guy tried shoving a copy of the Watchtower or something in my hand, and I was like, "No thanks, I don't believe in your God." Heh. I've never seen anyone get that worked up that quickly. Thankfully, my bus got there just in time and I was able to get away...

Whoa, yikes. Luckily, I just took the phamplet and the lady moved onto other victims potential converts.

My mother is a fanatical republican and fundamental Christian. I love her and it really, really scares me. We never bring the topic up anymore - the last time resulted in my sister trying to kill hersefl (literally) and a lot of screaming.

Gah.

Whoa.

I don't have a problem with people being religous, however fanatical they may be (I may not understand it but meh). I only get shitty when they try to impose those beliefs on me.

Ditto! On me or my education or my country. Gah! We have this problem very much in the States right now.
