Day 20: Do you ever get ideas inspired from other people's stories, vids, or art in the same fandom?

I think I have partly answered this before. It's not that I get directly inspired from other people's stuff, but stories, vids and art can make me like a pairing or character more or look at them in a different way, and this new outlook then inspires me to make some kind of vid. What that vid is, remains unknown at this point.

Day 19: When you have vid ideas, do you sit down and start vidding right away, or do you write down the idea for further exploration later?

I normally listen to the chosen song a couple of times... a day... for weeks... while I tell myself that I am going to sit down and write out a plan for the vid so I don't get stuck halfway through. But then the thought of writing a plan seems like so much work so I put it off. Or I start writing a plan and then get stuck halfway through that. Point is vids don't tend to get made quickly by me once I get the idea. I have had some ideas for years and haven't gotten started.

I do keep a list of all my ideas though. It is rapidly getting out of hand.

Day 18: Where do you get the most inspiration for your vids from?

Ugh, anything and everything. Sometimes I will just really like a show. Sometimes I just really like a character or a pairing. Sometimes I really like a song and think yes, I must vid this to something. Sometimes I hear a song and immediately connect it to a fandom.

Sometimes I will see a gif set on Tumblr and think viiiiiiiiidd!

Day 17: Titles: Do you try to use something different than the song? Why or why not??

I think using the song title as the vid name is pretty much the norm at this point. Which I like because it makes it easier to remember which vid is which. And the song tends to be such an important part of the vid so it makes sense to use the song name.

The only time I used a different name for a vid was because I did a play on words. Which I do not regret.

Day 16: Summaries: Do you like them or hate them? How do you come up with them, if you use them?

I love summaries on other vids because they help me decide whether I want to watch said vid. Sometimes vids don't have a whole lot of other info so a good summary has definitely convinced me to watch a vid before.

But on the other hand, I suck at coming up with summaries myself. Sometimes I go for a basic "character name character study etc etc" or I take either a quote from the song or a quote from the show/film and use that with additional info like pairing, theme, etc in brackets after.

Day 15: Warnings: What do you feel it most important to warn for, and what's the strangest thing you've warned for in a vid?

I feel the serious stuff like sex, violence, gore, and sexual assault, etc, is important to warn for, even if it's only implied and not necessarily shown, so people can avoid the things they want or need to. Even if it doesn't personally bother me, I still try to warn for things I think people would want warnings for. I don't think too many warnings matter either. If you don't care about warnings you can simply skip over them.

I also like the extra random warnings or rather a better word would be enticements because it makes finding things either. I think the strangest warning I have used was 'misleading use of zombies' because there were only a few.

Day 14: Ratings: how high are you comfortable with going? Have you ever vidded higher than you're comfortable with? If you're comfortable with NC-17, have you ever been shocked by finding that the vid you're making is G-rated instead?

I am comfortably with any rating. Theoretically. Since I have never vidded NC-17. I have vidded a sex scene in an AU vid before although it just used existing clips from the show out of order so I don't think it counts as NC-17...

I don't really think about ratings when I am making a vid so no shock occurs in that sense.

Day 13: Do you prefer canon or fanon when you vid (canon shots vs. using shots out of context; AU vs. canon)? Has vidding for a fandom changed the way you see some or even all of the original source material?

I don't have a preference re: canon vs fanon. I have vidded both and enjoyed both. I think fanon videos are just as awesome as canon ones and have huge amounts of respect for people who can create seamless fanon vids.

Vidding has definitely changed the way I see the original source. Both from watching other people's vid and having to scrub through hours and hours of source for my own. You pick up all these little moments that you never noticed before.

Day 12: Have you ever attempted an "adaptation" vid of a favorite media source but set in a different fandom? (I.e., attempted to bring the 'feel' or 'mood' of one source to a different fandom, like the zombie Mary Poppins vid.

Not really. The closest I came was making a vid of the 'Neckz 'n Throats' verse for Teen Wolf, which you can find here, which makes me laugh so much. But that is really just an AU of the existing source, not so much with the adapting.

I don't really pay attention to genre. I make whatever vid I happen to be inspired by at the time and am grateful that I am able to finish it.

But looking back on my vids, individual character studies tend to stand out the most.

I have never had to vid a pairing I didn't like. I have enough trouble making vids I do like so I would never put myself in a situation where that might be an option.

There's only really one fandom that has vids that actually focus on a pairing which is Supernatural and there was only one pairing within that fandom that I vidded, which was Sam/Dean so... that's really only my answer by default.

What is more likely to happen is that my opinion of a character changes because of something else (fic, meta, gif set on tumblr) and that in turn inspires me to make a vid.

Day 6: When you vid, do you like vidding a certain kind of male or female archetype? (Credit to Dualbunny for that one!)

I don't know if it's an archetype or even what you call it but if you ignore all the SPN vids (since the archetype there is obviously angst-filled codependent brothers), I seem to be vidding characters that "take charge" of their destiny. Susan from Discworld, Danielle from Ever After, Lady Gaga from her music videos, Erica from Teen Wolf. There are exceptions but that's the only pattern I can see. One that I am not displeased with!

No? My vids tend to originate with a specific theme/idea which is closely tied in to the song choice so the thought of having another character intrude seems wrong. And apparently just doesn't happen to me.

Day 4: Do you have a "muse" character or fandom that speaks to you more than others? Who are they, and why did that character/fandom became your muse?

I don't know if "speaks" to me is the right term. I've made more vids in Supernatural at this point than any other but then again, Supernatural is the main fandom I have been in when I started vidding seriously. Likewise, I have written more HP fic than any other because my writing phase happend to coincide with my HP phase. But I wouldn't say either fandom "spoke" to me so much as I just make the kinds of things I like making at the time for the fandoms I happen to like at the time. It isn't any deeper than that.

Hmm, I am not going to answer this for the fandoms where I have only made one vid, although it's safe to say that if said vid focuses on a character then it's probably a favourite *cough* Susan *cough*

Let me answer this for Supernatural, since I have made the most there. So far my favourite character to vid was Dean because I was super pleased with how My Boy Builds Coffins turned out. But there is an epic Sam vid in me that will hopefully see the light of day at some point.

All A+ fandoms, would vid again. But to be honest, I have a bunch of SPN ideas to be made in to vids, which will happen as soon as I figure out how to deal with the humongous amount of source. Farscape is definitely a fandom I want to vid in again now that I actually know what I am doing but that's going to involve a rewatch of all four seasons and the mini. There's one Merlin vid planned that probably has the highest chance of actually being made. But Teen Wolf is probably the fandom that has the greatest odds of producing a vid out of me. Although I need to redo all my source...

All the other fandoms are just one off vids I have done for challenges. Except for the Lady Gaga one. I always intended to do a sequel to the first vid. Just need her to make another video with Beyonce.

Because memes are probably the only way to get me to post these days. Stolen from giandujakiss and is in no way an attempt to procrastinate working on my festivids

Day 1: How did you first get into vidding, and what was the first fandom you vidded? What do you think it was about that fandom that pulled you in?

FARSCAPE! I don't think it was the fandom specifically that got me interested in vidding but rather Farscape cause me to discover fandom. It was around the same time when I realised I could use the internet to discover all manner of ~~horrifying~~ amazing things, one of which was as many fanfics as I could find and print off to read later in my room (I wasted a lot of paper. Also, the first slash fic I read was a John/D'Argo one. Should totally go find that again...). But because the way the show was scheduled in Australia was sporadic at best, finding out fanvids existed also meant I could see what happened in the show while waiting frustratingly long periods of time for a new episode to randomly appear. I may have spoiled myself in huge, confusing ways but it was totally worth it.

But fanvids intrigued me not only because it was more of the thing I loved but because they remixed the source in new and exciting ways. It was like watching the same show in different ways again and again and again. I can't really explain it but the combination of the visual and audio to say different things just immediately resonated with me and I knew this is something I wanted to do.

Of course, it was easier said than done but I loved the show so damn much that I persevered, made a fanvid and then proceeded to show no one ever. Actually I showed my parents but I never managed to get it online at the time because YouTube didn't exist and everything else was too hard.
